Principal

Miss Marie Sciretta – Principal

I graduated from Framingham State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and began teaching second grade at Sacred Heart School in Milford. In September 1975, a merger with St. Mary’s Grammar School and Sacred Heart School brought the two faculties together, and Milford Catholic Elementary School was established. After the merger I taught third grade for one year and then second grade until 1982, when I began teaching first grade. First grade is a special and memorable year in a child’s education. The children arrive at school on the first day motivated and excited about learning! I enjoyed opening this new world to them and stimulating their curiosity to learn. As a teacher, I was always honored to be part of each child’s learning experiences.

I received a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a Specialization in Literacy from Lesley University. In 2005, I earned a Level I Certification in the Wilson Reading System.

Through the years, in addition to teaching in the classroom, I have been involved in many projects related to education. I have contributed to published research on children’s curiosity and interactive technologies. I conducted a pilot study on a curiosity instrument in my classroom at MCES which was published in 1994 in Educational Technology Research and Development. As an advisory board member of the Pappyland Television Series, I contributed educational articles and story ideas, and was the script consultant on episode #306, “Buddy Bear and Turtle Lou Trade Places.”

I contributed unit ideas and lesson plans to the Educator’s Guide that accompanies The Strangest Dinosaur That Never Was. This book is designed as a read-aloud for students in primary grades as a part of a school or at-home lesson or unit on evaluation skills. Also, I consulted for and contributed a lesson plan to the Educator’s Guide for The Curious Kids and the Squiggly Question: A Storybook Approach to Introducing Research Skills.

In June 2007, I was the interim principal of MCES and served as Teacher-In-Charge from 2007 until 2013. I was the chairperson for our Accreditation Steering Committee from 2001-2004 and co-chairperson for 2012-2013, guiding the accreditation process for MCES successfully with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. I also served on the MCES School Board during the 2012-2013 school year.

On July 1, 2013, I proudly accepted the position of Principal of Milford Catholic Elementary School. I look forward to continuing my strong relationships with the students, families, and faculty, as together we advance our mission and lead MCES towards a bright and positive future.
